Join Team ClearWater in The Run for the Fallen or The Army Ten-Miler
We're happy to announce two 2012 opportunities to join Team ClearWater, a group of runners and walkers participating in and fundraising around events such as road races, triathalons and more!

The Run for the Fallen will be held in Connecticut on July 28 will feature a 60-kilometer road race and options for running or walking on a track at the finish. Starting in Crystal Lake and finishing in Glastonbury, the race has options for both running a portion of the road race or simply joining others at the track to do laps, hear speakers, and cheer on the road team when they enter the stadium. There is no cost to participate - all you need is an interest in moving your feet and rasing funds for ClearWater!

The Army Ten-Miler will be held in Washington, D.C. on October 21. This picturesque ten-mile race weaves its way through the monuments in our nation's capital. 2012 will mark Team ClearWater's 3rd anniversary of running the Ten-Miler! Race weekend will feature Team get-togethers before and after the race.

If you'd like to join Team ClearWater for either event, please email Stacy Johnson at sjohnson@clearwaterinitiative.org.

Team ClearWater Runs the Army Ten-Miler (October 2010)
We're thrilled to announce that our fall 2010 Run. Sing. Drink. campaign was an overwhelming success! Our largest fundraiser to date, the campaign had had over 20 runners in the D.C. Army Ten-Miler and raised over $33,000 in support of ClearWater’s programs.

Run. Sing. Drink. culminated in D.C. with a milestone weekend of activities, including a community event, fabulous concert by the band Guster, and of course the race itself. The weekend truly reflected Ben Sklaver’s spirit. A Captain in the U.S. Army and an avid runner, Ben was also an alum of Tufts University like the band Guster and was always up for sharing a good beer with friends.

Thanks to all our fabulous runners, volunteers and supporters for making this campaign such a success – we couldn’t have done it without you.

Kitgum High School Cafeteria Dedication, Kitgum District, Uganda (August 2010)
Our founder, Ben Sklaver, was honored in Uganda with the dedication of the Kitgum High School Cafeteria. A four-member ClearWater delegation watched as the government of Kitgum District, the U.S. Ambassador to Uganda and U.S. Army Brigadier General James Owens - a former superior of Ben's - cut the ribbon on the joint USAID/US military civil affairs project.

The ceremony was a well attended and fitting honor to Ben’s work, with speakers and friends from all walks coming to show their appreciation. Chairman of Kitgum Komakech was taken by his legacy, calling him a "simple and humble man," who "demystified a lot about the U.S. Army," creating a positive image. Resident District Commissioner of Kitgum Omony Ogaba hoped that "Ben's spirit may empower others who use this facility to strive for lasting peace."

The cafeteria itself was smartly appointed, with sturdy tables (unfamiliar to most dining halls there), a shiny brick floor and a new cookery. In addition, renovations will even allow the building to double as the school’s auditorium. Meals at the Sklaver Cafeteria will remain simple – rice, beans, boo and malakwang – but its completion will provide new opportunities for the children of Kitgum.

The event and effort were a strong show of commitment from the U.S. to education and the people of northern Uganda. "These combined efforts,” said Jerry Lanier, “show the Ugandan people that peace is here and together we will build a brighter future.”
